James G. Gilmore is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland, College Park, studying rhetoric and political communication. His main area of focus is the intersection between religion, politics, and culture. Right now he is working on several projects related to the discourse of the Christian Right, with the ultimate goal of writing a dissertation on the ways in which religious figures use discourse to activate, mobilize, and maintain publics for political activity. He is also active in politics, volunteering for campaigns and blogging about religion, politics, and culture.

Before beginning his studies at the University of Maryland, Gilmore received a Bachelor of Arts in English and communication from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, a Master of Arts in theatre from Bowling Green State University, and a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, where he studied patterns of intersection between the Burning Man movement and emerging churches. A link to his MA thesis, "Divine Appointments: Patterns of Engagement between Burning Man and Emerging Churches," can be found in the Work section of this website.
